Join us for our weekly after-school classes! Students will work on a new project, progressing from design to build, every 4 weeks. Note that the registration price includes supplies and materials.
Class length: 1 hour
Ages: Middle School and High School
March: Make a birdhouse. Try your hand on a timeless project and make some new feathered friends in time for spring by building a birdhouse using common power tools.
Long description: Participants will first choose a birdhouse style by selecting one of a few local birds commonly found in the area. Next, they will take their materials and mark out where to cut their pieces using the provided templates and measurements. With the wood securely secured, participants will next use their electric jigsaws to cut out the individual pieces. They will then assemble the pieces into place using bar clamps and fasten them together with screws and electric hand drills. Next, other details such as perches and roofs will be crafted and added. Finally, participants will sand and smooth their edges using various hand planes and sandpaper before applying a non-toxic miral oil and wax finish to protect it for seasons to come.
Skills: Sawing, Drafting and design, Measuring, Wood planing
Tools involved: Jigsaw, Wood plane, Hand saw, Wood vice, Hammer
Adult caregivers are welcome to sign up for $35/month to join their kids in classes. You can find that option at the bottom of the curiousgoose.ca/signup
