Join us for our weekly after-school classes! Students will work on a new project, progressing from design to build, every 4 weeks. Note that the registration price includes supplies and materials.
Class length: 1 hour
Ages: Elementary School
March: Craft a wooden toy car. Get introduced to woodworking by crafting a toy racecar from raw wood, then get a lesson in physics when we put them to the test on our in-house race track.
Description: Participants will start by choosing a profile shape for their racecar and creating a stencil using paper and drafting tools. Next, they will learn to use a carpenter's saw to cut the required length of wood for their design. After clamping the wood piece in the vice, participants will trace and cut their designs using a coping saw. Next, they will learn to use a drill press to drill two holes for mounting the wheels. Participants will then learn how to use a spoke shave and carving knives to smooth and refine its shape. Once the body is done, they will then attach the pre-cut wheels using nails and a hammer. Finally, we'll test out everyone's design and see who's quickest to the bottom of the Fast and Curious Downhill Rallytrack.
Skills: Drafting and design, Measuring, Wood planing, Hammering, Drilling, Carving.
Tools involved: Coping saw, Spoke Shave, Drill Press, Carving Knives.
Adult caregivers are welcome to sign up for $35/month to join their kids in classes. You can find that option at the bottom of the curiousgoose.ca/signup
