Make a Cutting Board

Make your own an heirloom-quality cutting board in this hands-on two-session workshop at the Curious Goose Community Workshop. Perfect for beginners and hobby woodworkers alike, you’ll learn a few techniques using different tools and how to finish strong to ensure a durable, beautiful board you’ll be proud to use or give to a loved one.

What you’ll do Session One ( Aug 4 | 6-8pm )

• Select, cut, and prepare wood strips for stability and appearance

• Design a board layout and explore pattern options

• Glue-up and clamp the assembly for a strong, reliable bond

• Discuss optional features (juice grooves, handles, end-grain vs. edge-grain) and extra steps for customization

Session Two ( Aug 11 | 6-8pm )

• Flatten the glued-up blank using scrapers and shop planer

• Cut the board to its final shape

• Progress through sanding to a smooth, food-safe surface

• Apply and learn how to maintain a durable finish to protect and preserve your board

What you’ll leave with

• A finished heirloom-quality cutting board made of cherry, maple and/or walnut that will measure approx. 12” x 10” and 1” - 1.5” thick

• Some practical woodworking skills you can use on your own again and again

• Guidance on care and maintenance so your board lasts for generations

Additional details

• Two sessions: all materials are included; all power tool use will be demonstrated

• Suitable for all skill levels: please wear closed-toe shoes to class; shop aprons will be provided

• For those who are interested in further personalizing their completed boards, we have laser engraving and CNC services available and will have time to discuss those options at the end of the first session.
