Join the Curious Goose Guild and start turning your someday maybe ideas into real things with as much (or as little) help as you need.
What can I build as a member of the Guild?
All sorts of things. You can build anything you are safely able to with the experience you have and the tools and equipment available to you in the shop. If it can be carried out the door, then it’s at least possible. Whether it’s practical is something we’ll have time to review and discuss.
What tools are available in the workshop?
So many. You’ll find all of the basics here, as well as a few fun ones you may have always wanted to try, or didn’t know you wanted to try, yet.

We have many professional grade machines and tools that can do all sorts of wonderful things when used as intended. There are a few dust collectors and lots of hand brooms around to help keep sawdust to a minimum.
The bigger machines include:
10” table saw
12” miter saw
1/2” table router
14” bandsaw
13” helical planer (2 speed)
20” scroll saw
24” oscillating belt/spindle sander
12” drill press
wood lathe (no bowl chuck, yet)
Guild members will be trained on how to safely and effectively operate each machine in its unique setup as their projects and experience levels require. Some machines have particular or complicated requirements; usage and availability will need to be determined on an ongoing basis.

There are so many cool things you can put a battery on nowadays. We’ve got most of the common ones and a few fun ones. More to come, to be sure.

We have a wide assortment of carving, shaving, planing and sanding hand tools, including:
sloyd whittling knives
hook knives
spoon gouges
chisels (1/4” - 1 1/2”)
Jack planes (#5, #5 1/2)
1” block plane
spokeshaves
drawknives
palm sanding blocks and other sanding implements
assorted rasps and files
All the blades are maintained in-house and sharpened regularly (though more help from experienced sharpeners is always welcome!)

Listing every tool in the shop isn’t on the urgent list of projects, but If you need a tool to manipulate a part on a thing that is (or was) relatively common around here and can easily fit through the front door, then it’s probably in here somewhere. Or at least something that’s probably close enough.

In addition to most of the carving tools working just as well on leather, we also have all of the common hand tools for basic leatherworking, including:
hammer, twist and rotary punches in various sizes
rivet anvils, strikers and setters
shears, knives and other cutting tools
strip cutter for making straps
burnishing blocks

We have a Sienci 4’ x 4’ Altmil CNC mill with a 2.2kw spindle and an xTool S1 40W laser cutter. People say they have a very high learning curve, and/but can do some really cool things when used correctly.
If you have a project that could make use of some automated cutting, then we can explore what that might look like based on your design/CAD and project needs. Because of the considerable risk and specific processes associated with zero-tolerance machines like these though, any programming and/or operating of the machines at this time will be done by one of the staff.

When can I use the workshop?
The shop is available to members during regularly scheduled Guild Time sessions. As the guild expands and more people want to join the flock, we’ll be able to add more days and bigger blocks of time to the schedule.
For now, we have time available on Wednesdays and Fridays, and coming soon, weekends!
The Curious Goose workshop was an empty room in November 2025, and since then all but a few pieces of furniture in the shop were built in that room. There are countless more little improvements and workstation features to be completed yet, but we are very proud of what's been built so far, and are excited to be sharing it with the local crafting community.
